Biking with Beanzie

It's been more than a week now since I've been "bitten" or whatever and the red splotch is still on my stomach. Looks kinda odd and has me a teeny bit worried now. But we'll see. It's not spreading so I'm not being eaten alive or anything.

I did run 6 miles on Saturday morning and it was a great run! Perfect temperature and perfect pace. 10 min/mi exactly, which is what I wanted! I didn't want to push myself on my first run in a week and after being sick.

On top of that, the next day on Sunday, I biked 50 miles. It was Biking with Beanzie in DeKalb County. First time doing this ride with my road bike and totally worth buying now even if I'm still paying it off! Kevin & I did the ride again this year (3rd year in a row!) and this year we were side by side nearly the entire ride. It was great!

They changed up the routes entirely new so that we were heading west first. Bah. Stupid construction. Winds!! The ride down to Shabbona State Park was bad because of the bumps in the road and on a road bike, no suspension it was very hard on my left wrist. That's the first time I lost Kevin.

Then we decided to split the difference between the 43 and 64 mile route. We headed to 64 but cut it short and made our own route and headed north. That's when I lost him again, heading north and had switchback hills on the road. We were on County Line Rd between Lee & DeKalb County. The winds and the hills got to me, had to stop once we met back up with the route.

No massages at the end of the ride this year. That was disappointing. My shoulders could have definitely used it! We were out for about 4 hours and rode for a total of just over 3 hours. Not too shabby. I think we averaged about 15 mph.

I had forgotten to wear my knee brace though so by the end of the ride my right knee was giving me a bit of trouble. I did find that if I sat farther back on my saddle and bent over my knee felt better. But it hurt my butt more sitting like that. And my feet/toes are still going numb in my shoes so I'll have to adjust my cleats again.

My knee is stiff today though. I took today off of running and will go for it Tuesday morning. A long run of 12 miles is due this Saturday. Should be interesting!!

That sounds like a tough bike ride!

I hope your bite is okay. I was just reading about someone who got Lyme disease... what you wrote made me think of that.
