Well, I got back to running this week. It's about time eh? After 2 weeks off of running, I was started to get achy/itchy. Which most people feel after a few days of not running. I guess I'm just different.
Anyway, Luke had his 10k up in Rockford at Rock Cut last Saturday. Came in 9th overall and 1st in his age group. I got to see him takeoff but unfortunately, I didn't see him finish. :-( I am incredibly disappointed in that! Since the building wasn't open, I went back to his car to keep warm as it was very cold out there. He ran last year in 55 minutes so I was figuring he was going to run 50 or 55 again. Well, it was 47 minutes this year. Not as much snow. I came running up tot the finish line as he was looking around for me. My toes were freezing by the end of the awards ceremony. I have to get used to staying after the races now if I'm gonna be with this guy!
I did end up seeing quite a few number of people that I knew at the race from my area. Mainly cause of Corn Fest & NITRO. I think that weirded out Luke a bit since he's the one that runs in Rock Cut all the time and lived in Rockford all his life. Haha!
My back was feeling better by Saturday but with the weather & me not having a run in 2 weeks I decided not to do the race. So I waited until Monday. I had the day off for MLK Jr Day so I hung around Luke's area all day and then he & I worked out together. Which was exactly what we did the last time I ran on the 2nd! Anyway, I managed to do some good miles on the treadmill. First 2.12 miles at 7.0 mph/8:34 min and then I walked until 2.5 and then I ran at 6.5 mph/9:13 min until 4 miles and then I ran at 6 mph/10:00 min until Luke was done lifting and I hit 5 miles. All in all, it was a great first run back!
Tonight was pretty much the same only I did the 7.0 mph/8:34 min only I lasted until 3.12 miles. Woo!!! Kept going after that too until 3.6 miles. Going down to 6.0 mph until 3.4 miles and then upping it to 8.0 mph for a tenth of a mile and then to 9.0 mph until 3.6 miles.
However, there was something different after this run. I had braces on my teeth. First time in 20 years. And I'm in pain. Well, pressure pain. And the inside of my mouth is a little raw. I can't imagine running another 23 miles for a marathon with this issue. I have to have these on for 8-12 months. Luckily, I have wax so I'm hoping that will easing up with the ouchiness with running long distances.
But I didn't eat much today because of the pressure. I had 3 tangerines and some pretzels. I could only munch down a few of those before it got to be too bad. I'm surprised I had enough energy to do that run actually. Then tonight I had some noodles and even that hurt a bit. I even hit my fork against my teeth. That wasn't too smart.
I'm also getting a new mattress tomorrow. So I'm hoping that's gonna help with my back problems. It went away after a week, so I'm guessing that was because of my fall in the cafeteria when I went skiing before New Years. That's the only thing I can think of. But it's gonna be nice to get rid of my 10+ year old mattress!!
Now my teeth hurt. Still. I'm gonna try to sleep. This should be interesting.
