St. Jude Hero

About this time last year, I asked for help and support for my participation in the St. Jude Memphis Half Marathon as a St. Jude Hero. Because of your generosity and belief in St. Jude’s mission, I raised a total of $1,425, well over my goal of $550. I also ran the 13.1 mile race in 2:03:01, well below my goal of 2:30. Altogether last year, there were more than 1,600 Heroes and collectively we raised $1.2 million dollars!

This time, however, I’m stepping it up a notch. I’m running the full marathon, 26.2 miles through the city of Memphis and my fundraising goal is $1500! All to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and its research. So once again, I am asking for your help and support of St. Jude by sponsoring me in this year’s St. Jude Memphis Marathon on December 6, 2008.

The donations raised will support St. Jude in its mission of finding cures and saving children with cancer as well as providing first-class medical treatment, lodging, meals and transportation for families. This will help so many people in our own community and throughout the country.

It is faster and easier than ever to support this great cause - you can make a donation online by simply clicking on the link at the bottom of this message. Whatever amount you can donate will help!

Thank you for supporting me always, but especially in this challenge. You really do make a difference.

Tomorrow Morning

Boy, it's going to be cold tomorrow morning.
Temperature tonight will be 36 and then by 7a, it should be 39. 7a is the time that I had hoped to start running.
Looks like I have to break out my cold weather tights and my long sleeved shirt!
I HIGHLY doubt that Brent will be joining me tomorrow morning after all! HA!
Might have to swing by Starbucks on the way out to the trail to pick up my hot cocoa!

I have finally uploaded my email address book to St. Jude's fundraising website.
I hope to send out emails on Sunday night after Brent leaves.
I don't think I saved an email from last year when I sent them out, so not sure what I said.
It was just a template which made it very easy.
They switched to a new fundraising site this year. It seems to be not as cool or easy. It took FOREVER for the address book upload window to show up.
So if anyone has my email from last year, I would appreciate it if you could send it back to me! :-)

My snail mail letter has increased from 1/2 page to 1.5 pages now!
That's because I talked about last years race and stuff.
I'm hoping to send that out this week.
I must go to Office Max and have everything printed out since my printer doesn't work.
Unless I buy a printer online or something.

Now I'm just waiting for Brent to show up. Should be in another 30 minutes or so!

Races

I'm done.
I'm done running.
I'm done running in races.

I'm so disappointed that no one has bothered to come out and see me run. Except for one time, and that was my EX-BOYFRIEND'S MOTHER! How does that make me feel when compared to my friends? I will never forget that feeling of seeing her there. I understand some races because they're out of town and at 8am. But when I had two races IN TOWN and today's race started at 1pm, still no one was there. That's enough time to get over a hangover, to wake up and shower or get out of church. No one was there to tell me that my time wasn't that bad after all. To let me know that it was the wind that held me back. No one to try to pick me up.

I'm just so disappointed and depressed. Luckily, I'll have my family's support for my two races in Southern Illinois and the one in Memphis. I still plan on doing those but everything else is off the plate. And sure I blame myself for this; I shouldn't have expected anything. Expect nothing and you'll never be disappointed. But I still had this glimmer of hope, tucked way down. While I didn't exactly come out and ask for an audience I didn't think I needed to. I put it in my blogs, mentioning the dates several times, in my MySpace calendar, etc.

Well, my spirit is defeated so I'm done running in races. What's the point when no one wants to support me? I'll keep training for the races in southern Illinos (and because I really like the feel of running [plus my calves are awesome!]) I'll have people to cheer for me down there. But I'll try not to mention it anymore, not even when I hit a milestone. I will still send out an email about the St. Jude charity raising however.

I'm also disappointed in myself. Because this means I do need the support, friendship and kinship after all. I am not a loner; while I can do things like this by myself, it's not as much fun as if I had someone to talk to. So yes, I am disappointed in myself that I want the company.

Oh and I also got a list of all those that sponsored me after all. Thank you so much to those that did! $90 was donated, my donation of $10 plus my race fee of $20 I raised a grand total of $120. At least I can be proud of that.
